PHILADELPHIA—The next stop on my DIY Retail Tour following the PMA Fresh Connections Retail conference is a brand new banner for Giant Food Stores.

This Giant Heirloom Market opened in January, and is the first for this concept by Giant Food Stores. Ahold Delhaize, Giant’s parent company nixed the rollout of the small format bfresh concept in the Philadelphia area in 2017, opting to develop this one instead.

I will say the Heirloom Market is reminiscent of bfresh with the darker atmosphere and lighting, but it doesn’t have nearly as expansive fresh prepared foods.

Giant announced about a week after it opened this first store that it plans to open several more over the coming months in the Philadelphia area.
