In the 2021-2022 Peruvian grape export campaign, growers shipped 531,069 tons for $1.373 billion, 13 percent more in volume and 22 percent more in value than the previous campaign, as reported by Agraria.
The main destinations for the fruit were the U.S., the Netherlands, and China, which had a joint share of 70 percent.
Peru exported 224,303 tons of grapes for $597 million to the U.S., 14 percent more in volume and 22 percent more in value. This makes the U.S. the largest destination for Peruvian grapes, with a 42 percent share, similar to the previous campaign.
During the previous campaign, North American demand increased 8 percent and was served by two suppliers: Peru, with a 51 percent share (3 percentage points more than the previous year), and Chile, with 45 percent (3 percentage points less).
Regarding the Netherlands, Peruvian grape shipments to this country totaled 79,136 tons for $174 million, 6 percent more in volume and 14 percent more in value compared to the previous season.
The Netherlands was the second most important market for Peruvian fruit, with a 15 percent share, one percentage point less than the previous campaign. In the last campaign, the demand in the Netherlands increased by 5 percent.
And 66,977 tons of Peruvian grapes were shipped to China for $77 million. Compared to the previous season, fruit shipments increased 23 percent in volume and 25 percent in value.
Thanks to the results, China had a 13 percent share of Peruvian exports of this fruit (1 percentage point more than the previous year) and is very close to surpassing the Netherlands in volume.
From September to March, Asian demand rose 67 percent. During these months, the market was served mainly by three suppliers: Peru, with a 67 percent share (4 percentage points more than the previous year); Australia, with 13 percent (2 percentage points less); and Chile, with 9 percent.
