Arizona and California desert growing areas have had some problems with cold and ice slowing harvest and limiting yields, but vegetable supplies are projected to increase.
Markon Cooperative’s {{BB #:123315}} latest crop update says desert broccoli and cauliflower are showing better quality than late-season crops from California’s Salinas Valley and Santa Maria Valley.

For broccoli, “Markets appear to have plateaued and will be steady to slightly lower over the next 7-10 days,” Markon said November 30.
Cool weather, especially low nighttime temperatures, have continued to slow head maturation and reduce yields, keeping broccoli markets relatively high through much of November.

Cauliflower markets remain elevated as supplies are limited, so markets may not drop as quickly as broccoli.
“Similar to broccoli, the quality is better in Arizona and California desert regions, but low temperatures will slow growth and reduce yields this week,” Markon said.
