Four retailers, including one convenience format, were included in the annual Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For.
The list included Rochester, NY-based Wegmans at No. 4, Minneapolis-based Target at No. 26, Altoona, PA-based Sheetz at No. 58, and Lakeland, FL-based Publix at No. 91.
This is the 26th consecutive year for both Wegmans and Publix, and were two of only four companies that have been recognized every year.
“Our founder, George Jenkins, started Publix more than 90 years ago because he wanted to build a better supermarket that treated its associates with dignity and respect and its customers like royalty,” said Publix CEO Todd Jones, in a news release. “Today, we’re proud to keep his philosophies alive and are honored to continue to be on the Best Companies to Work For list.”
The list is created by Great Place to Work, which analyzes feedback from employees from companies with a minimum of 1,000 employees.
Feedback was based on company culture with criteria like trust, respect, credibility, fairness, price, and camaraderie.
Companies also were tasked with essay questions for greater insight into how their organization is a “great place to work,” with survey data analysis and essay evaluations factored into a “combined score” to compare and rank companies based on “the most consistently positive experience for their employees.”
