A growing trend in the Southern Hemisphere continues in the 2020/2021 season with a 20 percent increase in blueberry supply and more than 311,000 tons exported.
Peru and Chile represent 90 percent of the shipments, as reported by Simfruit.
The growth of organic blueberry supply also stood out, reaching an export record of 46,400 tons in 2020/2021 when considering shipments from Chile, Peru, Argentina, and Mexico.
The volume was 12,000 more tons that the previous season reflecting a 37 percent increase. Chile contributed the most with a 45 percent share, followed by Mexico with 32 percent and Peru with 15 percent.
Frozen blueberries are not far behind with a record volume of 52,000 tons in 2020-21 when considering exports from Chile, Peru, Argentina, and Mexico.
Chile’s part represents about 70 percent of the total, while Peru doubled its shipments and Mexico tripled them. Combined, a 17 percent increase was reached last season.
