Demand exceeds supply for California and Mexican broccoli and cauliflower, causing prices to rise, and keep rising into mid-October.

“Expect prices to climb over the next 10 to 14 days as yields decrease,” Markon Cooperative BB #:123315 said in a buyer alert about both broccoli and cauliflower.

In California, cool weather is to blame for the lighter supplies.

As for Mexican supplies crossing through South Texas, Markon said, “Supplies will be limited over the next 10 to 14 days due to high temperatures and sporadic showers.”

South Texas broccoli is expected to be $2-3 lower than product from the West Coast, Markon said.

As for product quality, the report said broccoli has been good with some occasional pin rot. Cauliflower buyers should expect great color and ideal size.
