AUSTIN, TX—Rainier Fruit Co. visited my area in mid-November raising awareness for its Pears for Pairs program and reinforcing its “Wholesome to the Core” message.
I caught up with Erica Bland, a pear grower for the company, at a donation event at Community First villages, an installation in Austin with tiny homes and trailers that provide housing for the homeless. We were on hand to donate socks as a part of the Hanes Sock Drive.

Socks are one of the most in-demand, but least received, requests at shelters, Bland says.
“It’s something I never thought of, but it makes so much sense,” she says.
The Pears for Pairs promotion will donate at least $20,000 to the sock drive in November and December.
Bland gave away pairs of socks along with pears to residents of Community First before we went over to promote the program at Wanderlust, a yoga event held at the Travis County Expo Center.
Wanderlust gave Rainier Fruit an opportunity to talk to yoga enthusiasts about the company’s “Wholesome to the Core” message and gave attendees a chance to win a year’s fruit supply.
