Senator Rick Scott, R, of Florida reiterated his request that the Department of Commerce immediately terminate the 2019 tomato suspension agreement.
In a letter to Secretary Gina Raimondo, Scott also called for Commerce to impose antidumping duties on “unfairly traded Mexican tomatoes.”
The letter is a follow-up to a September plea by Scott and fellow Florida senator Marco Rubio, both Republicans, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Florida Democrat, and 56 other members of Congress asking for termination of the agreement.
Scott’s letter demands an answer from Secretary Raimondo, and relief from Commerce:
“While you have ignored Congress, you have also allowed six weeks to pass since the comment period on this issue closed, and we have yet to receive a determination…The facts of this case have been clearly presented to the Commerce Department, and further inaction will continue to hurt American farmers.”
