According to the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH), banana exports in the first six months of 2022 totaled $293.4 million, reflecting an increase of $158.4 million when compared to the same period last year, as reported by La Tribuna.

This is reflected by the higher volumes exported of 6,174,500 40-pound boxes representing $113.2 million, linked to the gradual recovery of areas affected by hurricanes at the end of 2020.

In addition, the average national price increased 18.2 percent, with each box being quoted at $21.67, which was higher than the $18.33 in 2021 and the $19.27 in 2020.

While this price increase is attributed in part to the decrease in Ecuador’s (the world’s largest producer) production due to unfavorable weather conditions, international sales during the first half of this year nearly matched the $294.7 million achieved in the same period in 2020, before the hurricanes Eta and lota.
