Consumers are reacting to mainstream media reports of supply chain challenges in meat by panic-buying and stocking up, and fresh produce could be benefitting, says Anne-Marie Roerink of 210 Analytics.

Anne-Marie and I discussed the latest sales numbers from IRI, week ending April 26, which showed a 23% bump in fresh produce sales at retail. Anne-Marie also produces reports for the meat, deli, bakery, and dairy industries, and has some insight on how produce is influenced by shortages in those areas.

The week ending April 26 also is the first week we’ve not had influence from a holiday like Easter, which should provide insight into shopping behavior in general.
