SAN DIEGO – Dwayne Campbell, assistant manager of perishables for a Hy-Vee store in Des Moines, IA, is the winner of the 2019 Best Bagger contest held at the National Grocers Association Show on Feb. 25.
Campbell won a $10,000 cash prize, beating out finalists from retailers across the U.S.

Other winners included:
Elissa Chambliss of Buehler’s Fresh Foods, OH, who took second, winning a $5,000 cash prize;
Justin Vera of ShopRite, DE, won third place;
Tyler Haselkamp of Coborn’s Inc., MN, won fourth; and
Jake Waid of Nugget Market, CA, placed fifth.
Contestants are judged by speed, bag building technique, balance, style, attitude and appearance.
