Panama Banana expands into vegetables

The hiring of salesman Phil Pedi allows Panama Banana Dist. Co., BB #:101999, Chicago, to expand to offer a full line of vegetables.

Vice president Deke Pappas said Pedi joined the company in late August as head of vegetable sales, and the company now offers every kind of vegetable.

Previously, the company mainly sold fruit and some vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, potatoes and onions, Pappas said.

He said Pedi has a strong history in the produce industry having worked at Anthony Marano Company BB #:101974 in Chicago for the last eight years. Pedi’s father also worked at Marano before retiring a few years ago.

“Customers requested we start this vegetable department,” Pappas said.

Panama Banana is based at the Chicago International Produce Market.
