Between weeks 34 and 10 of the 2024-2025 campaign, Peruvian table grape shipments totaled 81.4 million boxes (8.2 kilos each), representing a 31 percent increase compared to the 2023-2024 season, according to Agraria, citing Manuel Yzaga Dibós, president of the Peruvian Table Grape Producers Association (Provid).
The Ica region is the main table grape producing region, with a 49 percent share, followed by the Piura region with 36 percent.
The Ica region shipped 40.5 million boxes of table grapes, registering a 17 percent increase compared to the previous season, and Piura exported 30 million boxes, representing a 49 percent increase compared to the 2023-2024 campaign.
“Shipments from the northern region, which includes Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Áncash, and Cajamarca, showed a 54 percent increase, while those from the south, which includes Ica, Arequipa, Moquegua, and Lima, grew by 17 percent compared to the previous campaign,” said Yzaga Dibós. “Currently, the south leads exports with 52.8 percent of the total, while the north accounts for 47.2 percent.”
Exports of table grapes from the white seedless varietal group registered a 40 percent increase, while those from red seedless grew by 32 percent. Meanwhile, black seedless grapes showed a 22 percent increase and red globe grapes grew by 6 percent compared to the 2023-2024 season.
Compared to the previous year, which faced challenging weather conditions, table grape shipments to the U.S. increased by 46 percent, while those shipped to Europe grew by 50 percent.
“Meanwhile, volumes shipped to North America increased by 30 percent, and those shipped to Latin America increased by 16 percent. In contrast, shipments to Asia decreased by 35 percent compared to the 2023-2024 season,” he added.
According to the Provid bulletin, Peru exports more than 58 varieties of table grapes to various international markets, with the three most frequently shipped varieties up to week 10 being Sweet Globe (26 percent), Autumn Crisp (16 percent), and Red Globe (14 percent).
Exports for the 2024-2025 campaign exceeded the initial estimate of 78.8 million boxes of table grapes.
