In eight years, Peru has tripled its market share of the global blueberry business.

In 2016, Peru exported blueberries for a value of $237 million, representing 11 percent of the global value of the business ($2.246 billion for that year). By 2024, shipments reached $2.27 billion, representing 33 percent of the global value ($4.692 billion), according to Agraria, citing a report from the Proarándanos trade association during a Blueberries Consulting industry event.

The global blueberry market was estimated at $6.962 billion last year, which also indicates a threefold increase since 2016.

Applied in terms of volume, Peru shipped 27,000 tons of the berry in 2016, representing 6 percent of the then-global volume (460,761 tons). By 2024, meanwhile, shipments will reach 326,000 tons, accounting for 31 percent of total global shipments (1.054 million tons).

For the current season (2024-2025), Proarándanos projects a total of 317,941 tons, valued at $2.15 billion. This will represent a 15 percent increase compared to the 226,078 tons exported in the 2023-2024 season for $1.864 billion.

Regarding organic blueberries, the association stated that the projection is for the 2024-2025 season to reach 34,501 tons, which would represent an 11 percent share of total Peruvian blueberry shipments.
