In the first four months of 2022, Peruvian avocado exports dropped 11 percent in volume and 25 percent in value from 2021.
From January to April, Peru exported 117,297,835 kilos of avocado for an FOB value of $224.7 million, reflecting a decrease compared to the 130,931,750 kilos exported in the same period of 2021 for $284.1 million, as reported by Agraria.
According to the Agrodata portal, the main destination of these shipments in the period corresponding to 2022 was the Netherlands worth $103.9 million (46 percent of total shipments). It was followed by Spain with $38.6 million, China with $19 million, Chile with $14 million, the UK with $13.6 million, Hong Kong with $9.1 million, South Korea with $7.4 million, among others with smaller amounts.
Exports to the U.S. began in late March with low volumes, but the U.S. market is projected to receive about 16 percent of Peru’s avocado exports this year.
Agrodata highlights that in the first quarter of this year the main avocado exporting company was Westfalia Fruit Perú SAC with sales of $28.7 million, equivalent to 13 percent of the national total.
