With six weeks left to finish the 2022 exports campaign, Peruvian Hass avocado shipments have grown by 8 percent when compared to the previous season, according to Andina.

Of the total production of 525,000 tons, 95 percent is destined for exports and 5 percent for domestic consumption, reflecting a lower per capita consumption when compared to the U.S., Mexico, and Chile.

“The Peruvian consumes about 9 kg per capita of avocado and of this amount only .3kg corresponds to Hass avocado, so it is necessary to spread the benefits of this type of avocado that is internationally recognized,” said Arthur Medina, the general manager of ProHass.

He said consumption of Hass avocado has increased in recent years, both in country and in exports, due to its nutritional quality, since it is a fruit that provides vitamins and minerals recommended for good health.
