Peruvian mandarin exports drop in April

In April, mandarin shipments by Peru totaled 10,184 tons for $12.1 million, registering a reduction of 24.9 percent in value and 30.1 percent in volume, according to Agraria.

The average price was $1.20 per kilogram, 7.5 percent more than received in the same 2023 period. In addition, 19 destinations were reached.

The U.S. was the main destination for mandarin exports, representing 30.7 percent. This resulted in remittances worth $3.8 million and 3,092 tons, with an average price of $1.20 per kilogram.

In second position, the Netherlands, with 21.1 percent, received 2,216 tons for a value of $2.6 million at an average price of $1.20 per kilogram. And further back was the UK, with 15.1 percent, with 1,709 tons for a value of $1.9 million at an average price of $1.10 per kilogram.

It was followed by Canada, with a 12 percent participation in the total exports, represented income for $1.5 million and shipments for 1,305 tons at an average price of $1.10 per kilogram. Meanwhile, Japan stood in fifth, contributing to 10.7 percent of the total tangerine exports, which represented $1.3 million and 837 tons at an average price of $1.6 per kilogram.

The main exporters of mandarins were processor Laran S.A.C., which dominated with a 31.6 percent participation. It was followed by Consorcio de Productores de Fruta S.A. (27.3 percent), Advisory of Inversiones MUVA S.A.C. (7 percent), Safresco Perú S.A. (6.5 percent), and Arona Trading S.A. (5.3 percent).
