Peruvian produce exports rose 16.4% in the first quarter of 2021, led by massive grape growth.
The Association of Exporters (ADEX) reported to Agraria that non-traditional agricultural and/or agro-industrial shipments totaled $1.74 billion from January to March, reflecting an increase of 16.4 percent over 2020.
The numbers were boosted by the greater demand for grapes, whose sales grew by 32.7 percent, followed by fresh or dried mangoes, avocados, blueberries, asparagus, and bananas, among others.
Total exports reached $11.073 billion in the first quarter of 2021, reflecting a 13.7 percent increase when compared to $9.737 billion the previous year.
From January to March 2021, traditional shipments amounted to $7.551 billion, achieving an increase of 11.1 percent, while non-traditional shipments reached $3.522 billion, reflecting a growth of $19.8 percent.
ADEX reported that Peruvian agro-exports totaled $1.81 billion reflecting an increase of 16.2 percent when compared to the $1.55 billion reached during the same time period last year.
In March 2021 alone, Peru’s total exports grew 33.7 percent reaching around $3.591 billion, with both traditional and non-traditional shipments increasing by 31.3 percent and 40.1 percent, respectively.
