Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue pushed back against those who say the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement will harm American growers, specifically citing a recent Georgia study.
In a release from USDA May 28, Perdue said, “The University of Georgia recently published a study claiming the new United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement would cost some Georgia vegetable and fruit growers revenue and jobs. The sensational assertions are flat wrong. As a proud UGA alumnus, I’m here to tell you USMCA is good for Georgia’s farmers and all American agriculture.”
Perdue said in the last 10 years under NAFTA, Georgia growers have seen a 23 percent vegetable sales increase and 100 percent fruit and nut sales increase. He said the USMCA will be an even better deal for American famers than NAFTA if passed.
