Media reports have connected Salinas, CA-based Taylor Farms BB #:166504 to an E. coli outbreak investigation tied to Quarter Pounders sold at McDonald’s restaurants.
US Foods sent out a recall notification to its customers for foodservice packs of diced yellow onions and whole peeled yellow onions due to potential contamination out of “an abundance of caution.”
Bloomberg is reporting that Sysco has communicated with customers about the recall as well.
According to a company statement published by Bloomberg, Taylor Farms identified its Colorado facility BB #:101575 as a possible source: “Taylor Farms Colorado removed yellow onions from the market produced out of our Colorado facility. We Continue to work closely with FDA and CDC during this ongoing investigation,” the company said, in a statement.
McDonalds pulled Quarter Pounders from about 20 percent of its locations.
The CDC and FDA continue to investigate the outbreak, a source for which has not been definitively identified. Early reports indicate that the burger patties and onions are unique to the menu item.
Taylor Farms did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
