DALLAS—For a metropolitan area with a population pushing 6.5 million people, it’s a little surprising there wasn’t already an organization of likeminded fresh produce professionals working together to promote consumption.
Organizers of the Dallas Fresh Food Association are working to change that.
“We’ve found that here was not an association in Dallas, and it’s an incredible market,” said Dale Long, president of the DFFA and executive vice president of the Richardson-based Collaborative for Fresh Produce. “There’s a tremendous amount of foodservice and fresh food companies within this area so there’s a lot to build an association with.”
The organization has a two-part mission: To Inspire Consumption and Careers in Fresh Produce.
The plan is to meet regularly, Long said, and do outreach and career fairs with local schools and organizations, Long said.
The next planned meeting is November 7 at the North Texas Food Bank’s new facility at the Perot Family Campus in Plano. For more information, visit www.dallasffa.org.
