We all knew retail sales would spike with consumers stocking their “panic pantries” and “quarantine kitchens,” but how long will the sales shift last?

I talked with Anne-Marie Roerink of 210 Analytics about her recent report, showing a 63% increase in year-over-year retail sales. While fresh produce gains lagged behind other areas like meat and canned vegetables, we think there’s going to be a noticeable shift in consumer buying behavior over the next two weeks as pantries and freezers fill up.

Another important area to focus on is snacking, Anne-Marie says, with consumers and their families home all day. Meal planning and shopping needs to consider more than just dinner.
